Future Fund

365体育备用网址The Future Fund issues convertible loans to innovative UK companies with good potential, that typically rely on equity investment and are currently affected by COVID-19.

365体育备用网址The scheme will help these companies through the current period of economic disruption and the recovery, so they are able to continue their growth trajectory and reach their full economic potential.

The Scheme is designed by the UK Government and delivered by the British Business Bank.

Innovate UK Continuity Grants and Loans for existing support holders

365体育备用网址Up to £90 million is available in continuity grants, paid upfront, to SMEs and third sector organisations who are existing Innovate UK award holders and who are at risk of abandoning their project due to a sudden shortage or even unavailability of funds directly related to COVID-19.

These grants are for eligible organisations that expect to have a funding gap (between £25,000 and £250,000) in the remaining period of their project because they are facing loss or damages, such as reduced access to capital, cancelled orders or increases to costs, and are therefore seeing cashflow disrupted as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

iCon: COVID-19 Collaboration & Collaborative Grant

An initiative from the Construction Innovation Centre Scotland (CSIC) designed to quickly match industry challenges with potential solution providers and funding for impact focused innovation projects.

​​​​​​​Challenge holders

Anyone working in the built environment (policy makers, public & private sector clients, contractors, manufacturers, federations, trade & professional bodies, specialist sub-contractors, professional consultants, etc) with a COVID19-related problem that needs a solution.

Solution providers 

Product, service and technology providers from the built environment or other sectors, universities, colleges and R&D bodies.

Apply to the challenge fund to co-create solutions by using the online collaboration platform to register a challenge or solution, build collaboration teams and apply for funding.

Medical technologies, digital tools and Artificial Intelligence (AI) analytics to improve surveillance and care at high Technology Readiness Levels

365体育备用网址Proposals should address one or more of the following areas:

  • fast, cost-effective and easily deployable sampling, screening, diagnostic and prognostic systems, including new methods for screening of lungs, using for example AI or advanced photonics solutions, to detect the presence of the pathogen related parameters especially in an early stage of infection
  • environmental surveillance (sewage, air, etc.) systems and data analytics as a sentinel for viral (re)emergence and spread in communities, based for example on optical biosensors or genetic detection
  • low cost sensors, smart wearable devices and robotics/AI for telemedicine, telepresence and continuous remote monitoring of patient parameters
  • protection of healthcare practitioners and the general public improving for example the wetting and filtering properties of fabrics used for face masks; sensors, sterilisation, including robotics and AI solutions, for disinfection and social distancing in environments such as healthcare, public spaces and buildings
  • innovative data-driven services and tools combining data assets from various relevant privately held and/or publicly available sources. These could include AI-based solutions exploiting such data and possibly additional sensor-based signals, for diagnostics, prevention, treatment, or rehabilitation.

This is a EU H2020 Call and there are a number of further and very specific eligibility criteria. Please consider these carefully.

EIT Digital data against COVID-19

Venture support

Funding for existing high-impact SMEs within the digital category which are impacted by the COVID-19 crisis to which up to €500K will be made available between July and December, 2020 to enable selected companies to adapt and accelerate.

Innovation activity

Funding for existing high-impact SMEs and brand new start-ups operating directly within the digital health and wellbeing sector. Up to €500K will be made available between July and December 2020 for the purpose of rapidly deploying new data-driven solutions to arrest and manage the lifecycles of COVID-19 and other pandemics.

Segregation of personnel on work boats during transit: COVID-19 Innovation Challenge

The Workboat Association and G+ members - (offshore wind farm owners) are seeking to identify innovative solutions to solve their COVID-19 challenge.

Currently workboats are severely limited in carrying capacity due to COVID-19 distancing restrictions. They are looking for solutions to increase the carrying capacity of workboats.

The winning business(es) in this competition will be given a commercial opportunity to deliver their solution, and receive support from the KTN, ORE Catapult and the wider Innovate UK network.

UKRI open call for research and innovation ideas to address COVID-19

Projects addressing and mitigating the health, social, economic, cultural and environmental impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak.

UKRI will support excellent proposals up to 12-18 months duration which meet at least one of the following:

  • New research or innovation with a clear impact pathway that has the potential (within the period of the grant) to deliver a significant contribution to the understanding of, and response to, the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts
  • Supports the manufacture and/or wide scale adoption of an intervention with significant potential
  • Gathers critical data and resources quickly for future research use

Future of Flight: Drone projects to address COVID-19

The Future Flight team within UKRI are interested in projects to accelerate testing and feasibility studies leading to early industrialisation in the following areas related to the use of drones:

  • Delivery of medical supplies and testing equipment remotely to patients
  • Spraying of disinfectants
  • Collection and transfer of medical samples
  • Surveillance and public order management (such crowds building)
  • Replacing field-based personnel, for example on inspection and maintenance activities

To apply for this call you must submit to the UKRI call for COVID-19 research projects. To assist with assessment, please select Innovate UK as the primary council and ensure your project title includes the word “Drone”. It is also recommended that you email a copy of your submission to Simon Masters (, Deputy Challenge Director for Future Flight.

Funding type365体育备用网址: Ideally projects would be 2 to 6 months in length and up to £400,000 in total costs. Funding is available up to 70% for small organisations, 60% for medium organisations and 50% for large organisations. UKRI may consider de minimis grants of up to €200,000 at 100% if appropriate.

Closing date: There is no cut-off date for applications for the open call but the Future Flight Team have begun assessing applications. You are advised to apply quickly.

Supporting the NHS response to coronavirus

365体育备用网址COVID-19 has led to an unprecedented change in the NHS, and a new fund from Scottish Health Innovations Ltd (SHIL) will harness the knowledge and expertise of health and social care professionals across Scotland to develop innovative solutions in response to the crisis.

The package of support for NHS Scotland staff includes up to £25,000 of initial seed funding, combined with regulatory support, project management and the extensive innovation expertise of SHIL, who have worked in partnership with NHS Scotland since 2002.

Space helping the UK on COVID-19 and other pandemics

This open call for proposals, set up in cooperation between the European Space Agency (ESA) and the UK Space Agency (UKSA), is calling for activities to facilitate the quick integration and deployment of sustainable solutions to contribute to help alleviate the stress on the UK healthcare ecosystem provoked by the COVID-19 outbreak, making use of the different advantages provided by space-based products and services.

The funding will support projects to develop hi-tech solutions that address:

  • Logistics within the health delivery system, for example, drone deliveries
  • Managing infectious disease outbreaks
  • Population health and wellbeing
  • Recovering health system function and handling backlogs after the crisis
  • Preparedness for future epidemics

MIT Solve: Health Security & Pandemics

365体育备用网址Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the latest in a series of infectious disease emergencies including cholera, Ebola, SARS, Chikungunya, HIV/AIDS, and influenza. While scientists and drug developers, with support from governments and multilateral organisations, have been rushing to produce, test, and deliver vaccines and treatments, tech innovators also have a crucial role to play, both in the near term and to prevent and lessen future disease outbreaks.

In the near term, the world needs improved solutions for prevention, accurate detection and rapid response. MIT Solve is seeking tech innovations that can slow and track the spread of an emerging outbreak. For example, by improving individual hygiene, developing low-cost rapid diagnostics, analysing data that informs decision making, and providing tools that support and protect health workers.

UK 5G Innovation Network: Collaboration Platform

The Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) are part of the huge cross-government approach to tackling the virus and is working with the telecoms industry and its technology supply chain to develop and implement a coordinated response.

365体育备用网址As a result they have created this collaboration exchange to generate insights and ideas - but in a controlled way. From time to time UK5G will review the comments made and feed them into the DCMS.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought a huge change in working patterns at the Scottish Government and across the Scottish public sector, with a massive redirection of effort and resources to respond to the most serious health crisis in living memory.

CivTech has pivoted away from its normal Innovation Flow process, taken the great strengths they’ve developed in terms of rapid, de-risked development, and applied it to the Covid-19 response challenge.
