Our board

365体育备用网址Our board is appointed by Scottish ministers to strategically guide Scottish Enterprise.

365体育备用网址The board meets six times a year to oversee the direction of the organisation and help ensure we are adding value to Scotland's economy efficiently and with impact.

All members disclose their personal interests and follow the Scottish Enterprise Code of Conduct,365体育备用网址 which helps ensure high standards are maintained in Scottish public life.

Lord Smith of Kelvin, chair

365体育备用网址One of the UK’s most experienced chairs, Lord Smith has led organisations in the private, public and voluntary sectors.

He was Chair of The Weir Group plc until 2013, SSE plc until 2015 and The UK Green Investment Bank until 2017. In 2014 he chaired the Organising Committee for Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Smith Commission on further powers for the Scottish Parliament.

A chartered accountant by profession and former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, Lord Smith was knighted in 1999, appointed to the House of Lords as an independent cross-bench peer in 2008, appointed Knight of the Thistle in 2013, and awarded the Companion of Honour in 2016.

He is currently Chair, British Business Bank, IMI plc, and Forth Ports Ltd and Chancellor, University of Strathclyde.

Lord Smith of kelvin

Willie Mackie, Deputy Chair & Chair of the Audit & Risk committee

Willie Mackie has over 36-years of financial services experience and is a board member of Skills Development Scotland.

365体育备用网址Willie is a fellow of the Institute of Bankers in Scotland and has over 36 years of experience in the financial services sector including a spell as the managing partner of Clydesdale Banks Business, Private and Agriculture business across Ayrshire and Arran.

He established his business consultancy in January 2013. He has played an active role in supporting and promoting economic development and has held a number of non-executive positions, Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire (Board Member), Ayrshire Economic Partnership (Member), Ayrshire Chamber (past President), and Taste Ayrshire (Chair).

He was appointed by the Cabinet Secretary to the role of the Regional Chair of Ayrshire College in 2013, is a board member of College Scotland and College Development Network where he is also chair of the Audit Committee.

In 2014 he was appointed to the board of Skills Development Scotland where he is Chair of the Finance and Operational Committee.

Willie Mackie Scottish Enterprise

Melfort Campbell

365体育备用网址Melfort Campbell has established global engineering businesses serving the marine, defence, energy and utilities industries.

365体育备用网址Melfort established his own business in 1985 and has since established a group of specialised engineering businesses serving the marine, defence, energy and utility industries worldwide.

Melfort has served as chairman of the CBI in Scotland and chairman of the Robert Gordon University Board of Governors. He’s also been involved in European and UK programmes for the development of enterprise, innovation, economic development and business and education links.

Now, non-executive in his own businesses, Melfort sits on many boards with a particular focus on the oil and gas industry, co-chairing the Scottish Enterprise Oil and Gas Advisory Board, as well as being co-chair of Innovation Scotland, a GlobalScot and on the Oil and Gas UK Contractors Council.

Melfort is also a board member of Dreamstore, a charity supporting fishing for all.

Melfort Campbell

Anne Glover

Professor Dame Anne Glover is a molecular biologist and launched a successful spin-out company based on her research.

Anne was appointed the first Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland and then the first Chief Scientific Adviser to the President of the European Commission. 

Anne is currently at Strathclyde University as Special Advisor to the Principal and is also President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland’s national academy.

Carmel Teusner

Carmel Teusner is an organisational development specialist and brings global business experience spanning a broad range of industries and sectors gained through consultancy and senior management roles in FTSE 100 and ASX 100 companies.

Prior to taking on a portfolio of consulting and non-executive roles she was Group Head of Organisational Development for UGL, one of Australia’s leading engineering and outsourced services companies. She has hands-on experience of a range of challenges across the business lifecycle, from start-up, strategy development, expansion, consolidation, acquisition, integration and divestment.

365体育备用网址Carmel is a member of the Ofcom Advisory Committee for Scotland and former director of software firm Azalient Ltd. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development.

Gavin Nicol

Gavin was formerly director of operations for the Weir Group Plc. Gavin brings experience of delivering transformational business improvement across the globe having led businesses in the USA, China, India and the UK. Gavin is a visiting professor at the University of Strathclyde.

Gavin Nicol

Steve Dunlop, chief executive

Steve is Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise, Scotland’s national economic development agency.

365体育备用网址He joined the organisation in May 2018 from Scottish Canals (formerly British Waterways). Here, he was Chief Executive and responsible for the renaissance of Scotland’s 137 mile canal network which includes two of the nation’s most iconic tourist attractions - The Falkirk Wheel and The Kelpies.

A finalist in Entrepreneurial Scotland’s ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ award for 2017, over the last decade, Steve has become a leading public sector entrepreneur with a reputation for innovative and disruptive thinking in traditional environments.

He re-imagined some of Scotland’s most important industrial assets to develop corridors of opportunity which greatly benefit the people and economy of Scotland today.

Steve Dunlop, Chief Executive of Scottish Enterprise

Dr Poonam Malik

365体育备用网址Dr Poonam Malik is an academic research management leader with extensive experience of working in partnership development within healthcare, industry and academic sectors internationally.

She is Director of Innovation & Impact - Science & Technology with the World Health Innovation Summit, CIC, a social Enterprise supporting community and health care organisations.

Dr Malik is also an active member of Investing Women Angels, Scotland’s only women Angel Investor Community supporting women entrepreneurs with investment, mentoring and training.

Poonam Malik

Dr Sue Paterson

Dr Sue Paterson is an oil and gas professional, with over 35 years’ UK and international experience developed within the industry and consulting, gained in both technical and managerial roles. Her interests now include how the oil and gas sector can transition successfully to a low carbon economy.

She is a qualified IoD Chartered Director, and has almost 15 years’ experience as a non-executive board member in the oil, public and voluntary sectors, including Board Chair and expertise in fundraising, risk remuneration and audit.

Dr Paterson is fascinated by organisations, and how they can be run well to the benefit of all, and is co- author of the book “The Fear Free Organisation: Vital Insights From Neuroscience to Transform Your Business Culture.”

Sue Paterson

Karthik Subramanya

365体育备用网址Karthik Subramanya is currently Senior Adviser to Boston Consulting Group, advising senior management of Utilities across Europe and the Middle East on strategy and investments.

He is a Panel member of the Competition and Markets Authority and a Board member at Creative Scotland.

Before taking on a portfolio of roles, Mr Subramanya held senior executive roles in Utilities and Banking. He was Director of Strategy and Performance at SSE plc and was also Director of Group Strategy and M&A of Lloyds Banking Group. He has held senior management positions in private equity, management consulting and corporate banking.
